What was Diamond City?

Shackleford Banks is an island that runs west to east off the coast of North Carolina. We refer to our islands as banks. Diamond City once occupied a portion of Shackleford Banks. A community that focused on fishing, whaling, salvaging and surviving. The community existed until the Fall of 1899. The 1899 San Ciriaco Storm struck on August 18. No stronger hurricane has made landfall on the Outer Banks since then. The storm forced the inhabitants to leave Shackleford Banks and realize it was uninhabitable. Many went to nearby Harkers Island. Others went west up Bogue Sound to an area referred to as The Promise Land. It's located between 10th and 20th Streets along Bogue Sound in Morehead City. Some say a local man saw the people coming down the sound and said, "Looks like the Israelites coming to the promise land".

We continue to develop these Outer Banks in defiance of our ancestors. These Outer Banks provide protection from the sea and continually move

A foolish man who built his house on sand (Matthew 7:24-26).
