Cart or Carrot

This chart refers to the eastern most island of today's Rachel Carson Reserve as Cart Island. Legend says the newer cartographers did not understand the local dialect and misinterpreted Cart to Carrot. All charts after this refer to the island as Carrot. Many natives say carts were used to transport goods across the Island. Some say a shell causeway was built to the mainland. A shell mound exists today on Little Deep Creek between Carrot Island and Town Marsh.

Seavisions Charters has been an authorized guided boat tour operator at the Cape Lookout National Seashore since 2008.
