Cart or Carrot

This chart refers to the eastern most island of today's Rachel Carson Reserve as Cart Island. Legend says the newer cartographers did not understand the local dialect and misinterpreted Cart to Carrot All charts now refer to the island as Carrot Island. Many natives say carts were used to transport items across the Island. Some say a shell bridge was built to the mainland. A shell mound exists today near Little Deep Creek.
